I recently attended Dr Vivian Tam's Cosmetic Acupuncture seminar for the second time and she had a lot to say about Natural Acne scarring treatment. She established the 'Cosmetic Acupuncture Clinic Melbourne' and has been practising for almost a decade. She had developed experience with seeing many Acne clients, has a 92% success rate and has now released her own Chinese Herbal Medicine product for Acne, called Zilch.
Learning from her experience, there are natural acne scarring treatments that do assist the body to repair and recover the skin's tone and complexion.
How does Cosmetic Acupuncture work for Acne Scarring?
Cosmetic Acupuncture is her primary tool in helping people of all ages reduce the signs of scarring once the active acne has passed.
There are specific needling techniques directed at acne scarring and here's how it works; The needling of the face produces a micro-trauma. Localised blood flow is increased and it's this stimulus that begins the healing process.
The strategy of increasing blood flow to the facial skin, improves microcirculation in the tiny skin capillaries and delivers blood flow to the site of scarring pitting or pock marks. (often under-nourished areas or with poor blood flow)
Some Acne scarring can be coloured - either a purplish or even yellow tinge. Some may be the same colour as healthy skin, but just show the indentations or pitting marks.
The repetition of Cosmetic Acupuncture on these scarring sites, begins to condition the skin for more improved circulation each time and can make a significant difference to one's confidence and self-esteem as the scars become less noticeable.
There is nothing in the needles, they are solid, stainless steel, single use and sterilised. The guage of the needles is finer than you may think, with some needles being 0.10-0.12 mm wide!
Including Constitutional Acupuncture & Herbs
Body acupuncture may also be applied to support the facial recovery including Liver support to maintain hormone regulation, move stagnation and Nourishing the blood.
Chinese Herbal Medicine can be another adjunct to any Cosmetic Acupuncture session. Chinese herbs are just another way we can influence the Liver support, Nourish the blood and support skin recovery.
If Acupuncture isn't for you or your teen with acne, I also have a support program on Sydney's Northern Beaches called 'The Teen Acne Project'.
I offer this guided program for teens to manage their acne in 4-6 weeks that's natural and Chinese Herbal Medicine based, including lifestyle support.
I have SEVERAL WAYS to make it EASY for your or your teen to take Chinese Herbs WITHOUT TASTE! Would you be interested?
The first step is to complete the Skin questionnaire and you can access it here.

Case Study: Female, 39.
Mother of 2, history of Acne Vulgaris. Active red swollen lesions, blind pimples and some raised and swollen pimples with white heads along jawline and cheek. Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal medicine was prescribed to Clear Liver heat, reduce swelling, resolve dampness and move stagnation.
After 5 sessions Acupuncture, minimal Active acne, 1-2 smaller, less painful and swollen spots on whole face. Continue treatment with herbs as previously to maintain Liver support. Change Acupuncture strategy to address Acne scarring, by needling the face directly.
I would incorporate similar TCM treatment strategies when dealing with Acne scarring - first clear the active acne, then address the scarring as ongoing maintenance.
