Foot and Heel Pain? Here’s How Acupuncture May Help

Are you struggling with sharp pain in your heel or foot? Or have you already received a diagnosis and want relief? Acupuncture can support healing and reduce discomfort for many common foot conditions.

With 15 years’ experience as an acupuncturist, I’ve seen acupuncture help with several foot and heel complaints, including:

Heel Spurs

Heel spurs are bony growths caused by calcium deposits. They can be painful and inflamed. Acupuncture can help reduce local inflammation and improve circulation to the area. Needling the sole of the foot requires a skilled practitioner to ensure safety and comfort.

Plantar Fasciitis

Tight fascia along the sole of the foot can lead to plantar fasciitis, which may eventually contribute to heel spurs. Early acupuncture treatment can relieve pain, reduce inflammation, and support tissue flexibility, helping slow progression.

Sprained Ankles

Acupuncture offers a “hands-off” approach to ankle sprains. Needles placed around the ligaments and ankle bone help move stagnant blood, reduce swelling, assist lymphatic drainage, and support healing.

Gout

Inflamed joints, often in the big toe or elbow, can be incredibly painful. Acupuncture may help reduce pain and local inflammation while you manage uric acid through diet and lifestyle.

Scar Tissue & Chronic Foot Pain

Old injuries can leave scar tissue that restricts movement and circulation. Acupuncture can improve blood flow, support fascia and muscle flexibility, and reduce chronic aches, helping the foot function better over time.

Fractures

Acupuncture doesn’t heal bone directly, but it can support recovery by reducing pain, improving circulation, and addressing compensatory tension from altered posture or gait. Evidence-based points may be used around the fracture site and elsewhere to help with overall comfort.

Arthritic Joints

While acupuncture cannot reverse arthritis, it can reduce inflammation and provide temporary pain relief in toes, metatarsals, and other joints.

A Practical Approach

  1. See your doctor first for diagnosis.

  2. Consider acupuncture as part of your treatment plan for pain relief and recovery support.

  3. Acupuncture is gentle, minimally invasive, and can reduce the need for heavy pain medications.

If you’re experiencing foot or heel pain, acupuncture may help you move more comfortably and support healing. Book an appointment today to discuss a treatment plan tailored to your needs.
